More Activities in Costa de la Luz

There are bars and cafes facing the river, and hundreds of boats at anchor. If you're lucky there will be a naval vessel in port and you'll see lads in blue and white uniform, walking along with 'all the nice girls who love a sailor'. Punta Umbría's resources continue to attract adventurers to this day, people who cannot get enough of its bounty - those long sandy beaches and long summer days stirred by sea breezes. Perhaps not surprisingly, the earliest hunters for these particular treasures were the British.

The medieval Niebla Castle is a must, as are the high mountains of Aracena where wild boar roam, and where you can walk through the underground 'caves of marvels' or 'Grutas Maravillosas' and have a meal in the friendly white Aracena town. You can go west, to Portugal, and visit charming Ayamonte on the way there.

You can drive up along the River Guadiana to the town of Alcoutim for lunch, or visit the Algarve towns and beaches. Just over one hour northeast of Nuevo Portil, is one of Spain's loveliest and liveliest cities, Seville. A memorable trip for a day or even better for a few days, Seville stands tall amongst her southern rivals, Córdoba, Cádiz, Jerez, Málaga and Granada.
